Twelve Babson College faculty members were honored at the first All Faculty Meeting of the new academic year earlier this month. The annual awards recognize faculty for their commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service.

Among the recognitions was the Bala Iyer Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship Award, which was presented to Danna Greenberg, the Walter H. Carpenter Professor of Management, for her impacts on curriculum innovation and workforce research.

The Bala Iyer Lifetime Achievement in Scholarship Award was established in 2020 to honor Babson’s late dean of faculty. The award recognizes distinguished Babson faculty for lifetime achievements across research and scholarship.

“It is difficult to capture Danna’s scholarship in a few sentences because her work has had such a meaningful impact not only on her field, but also on Babson and on so many of us who have had the privilege of working with her,” said Lauren Beitelspacher, associate dean and Ken and Nancy Major Romanzi Senior Term Chair in Marketing, who announced Greenberg’s award. “It is our responsibility to leave things better than we found them. There is no one who exemplifies this better than Danna, she leaves everything better than she found it, and we at Babson are better for it.”

Greenberg’s teaching centers on organizational behavior at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels with a focus on entrepreneurship and design thinking. She is the co-author of “A Conceptual Model of Entrepreneurial Leadership: How Entrepreneurial Leaders Enable Entrepreneurial Opportunity,” a research paper that offers the first academic model of entrepreneurial leadership.

In a special moment, Priya Iyer, Bala’s wife and adjunct lecturer of entrepreneurship, was present in the audience to watch as Greenberg received the award that honors her late husband.

Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching

The dean of faculty, associate deans, and executive director of Babson Executive Education also selected five faculty members who demonstrated excellence in teaching to receive Dean’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching. This year’s recipients are:

Undergraduate Teaching Award: Associate Professor Jason Wong (Economics)
Graduate Teaching Award: Professor Dessi Pachamanova, the Zwerling Family Endowed Term Chair (Mathematics, Analytics, Science, and Technology)
College-Wide Teaching Award: Professor Nathan Karst (Mathematics, Analytics, Science, and Technology)
Babson Executive Education Award: Professor Wiljeana Glover, the Stephen C. and Carmella R. Kletjian Foundation Distinguished Professor of Global Healthcare Entrepreneurship (Operations and Information Management)
Adjunct Teaching Award: Adjunct Lecturer Wes Miller (Arts & Humanities)

Faculty Scholarship Awards

The Faculty Scholarship Awards are chosen by the members of the Babson Faculty Research Fund and the dean of faculty to recognize important scholarly work by faculty across the campus in research and innovation. The year’s recipients:

Pedagogical Frontier Research Award: Associate Teaching Professor Kristi Girdharry, director of the Writing Center & AI Literacy Lab (Arts & Humanities)
Innovative Scholarship Award: Associate Professor Stephen Spiess (Arts & Humanities)
International Research Award: Professor Stephen Deets (History & Society)

Service Awards

The associate deans of faculty, along with the dean of faculty, identified three faculty members who demonstrated excellence in service activities and outstanding service to the College. While faculty service includes external activities, such as leadership roles in professional associations, the Babson Service Award is focused on activities linked to campus-based service. This year’s recipients are:

Associate Professor of Practice Erin Degnan Escobedo, the inaugural faculty director of the TARCO Institute for Real Estate and Entrepreneurship (Finance)
Assistant Teaching Professor Shannon Mooney (Arts & Humanities)
Associate Professor Richard Wang (Management)

New Faculty Introduced

Babson also welcomed nine new faculty members to the community at the Faculty Meeting. The new faculty, which span six academic divisions, were introduced to their colleagues by their respective division chairs.
