Beery, the first Babson student selected for the program, will join a diverse cohort of 12 high-achieving students who will participate in an eight-week international internship in Dublin, Ireland. Beery, who was selected from more than 500 applicants, will join students from institutions such as Arizona State University, University of Alabama, University of Georgia, University of Pennsylvania, Vanderbilt University, and Villanova University.

The Frederick Douglass-Daniel O’Connell Global Internship in Ireland is a collaboration among the CIEE, the AAIDN, and Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. The program honors two iconic leaders and successful businessmen who worked their entire lives in Ireland, the United States, and around the world to advance civil rights, social justice, and economic mobility for all.

Beery, pursuing a business management concentration, was selected because of her academic excellence, entrepreneurial skills, and commitment to the betterment of others. She and the other students were chosen based on their desire to gain real-world work experience in Ireland, their interest learning more about Irish history and culture as well as the business acumen and social justice impact of Frederick Douglass and Daniel O’Connell, and their commitment to helping the world become more inclusive, just, and peaceful.

“Douglass and O’Connell stood for causes that challenged the status quo. They remind me how important it is to stay grounded in my beliefs and values even in the face of adversity.” Beery said in her application. “Through this program, I hope to learn how to use my skills in finance to drive equitable solutions and create opportunities for people who need them most.”
