Barefoot Athletics Challenge Receives Record-Breaking Support

Listen

The Babson College community stepped up in record numbers to support the annual Barefoot Athletics Challenge last week.

The Barefoot Challenge this year received contributions from 1,841 donors, who gave $235,320—both record amounts.

Barefoot Athletics Challenge

The Barefoot Athletics Challenge—initially funded by former Babson President Brian Barefoot ’66, H’09, P’01—encourages alumni athletes, parents of student-athletes, and Babson superfans to make a gift in support of the College’s student-athletes. Babson’s 22 men’s and women’s athletics teams—which include about one-quarter of the College’s undergraduate population—compete to help unlock $10,000 in challenge funds.

In the Alumni Challenge (based on the percentage of team alumni to make a gift), the top three teams were the ice hockey team, the men’s basketball team, and the field hockey team.

It was a big weekend for the ice hockey team, which also won its first-round NCAA Division III tournament game Saturday at home. The fifth-ranked Beavers shut out No. 14 Trinity College, 3-0—their first tournament victory since 2013. Babson (20-5-2) advances to the national quarterfinals Saturday at Saturday at No. 3 Geneseo (N.Y.).
