Lauri Union, William Gartner Named Among Top 25 Leading Global Academics in Family Enterprise

Lauri Union and William Gartner, two leaders of the Bertarelli Institute for Family Entrepreneurship at Babson College, have been recognized among the leading global academics in family enterprise by Family Capital. 

Union, the Nulsen Family Executive Director of the Bertarelli Institute, and Gartner, the Bertarelli Foundation Distinguished Professor of Family Entrepreneurship, were named to FamCap25, a list of the top 25 academics in global family enterprise by the online publication. 

For Union, this is the third time she has been honored as one of the leading global academics in the family enterprise sector. She was cited among the top 16 academics in 2022, the second year in a row she was honored on the list. 

“Union’s research and advocacy work on family enterprises at Babson College is well recognized in the sector,” Family Capital wrote of Union, who also teaches the undergraduate Entrepreneurial Families course. “Her practical experience of running—and turning around—a family business has been immensely helpful to many students at Babson College. … She has also been a strong proponent of the family enterprise sector and has been instrumental in raising the profile of family business research and engagement at Babson.” 

Gartner, who serves as the director of research at the Bertarelli Institute, also was cited among the top global academics in family enterprise. 

“Gartner’s research on family enterprises is highly respected and is among the most cited in the sector,” Family Capital wrote of Gartner. “He is especially recognized in the field for his work on entrepreneurship at family businesses. Gartner has worked with many other top academics in the sector and is also recognized as one of the top teachers, with his seminars in big demand.”
