The Edward A. Madden Professor of Global Leadership position was endowed in 1997 to create a professorship in the Global Center in honor of Edward A. Madden ’23, P’64 ’97, G’93 ’04. The position—a gift of Robert E. Madden H’97, Babson trustee, and his wife, Terry—was the first fully endowed distinguished professorship at Babson.

“Please join me in congratulating Wendy on this well-deserved appointment in recognition of her continued contributions and academic excellence at Babson College,” wrote Professor Donna Stoddard P’21, the Murata Dean of Faculty, in announcing the appointment.

Murphy joined Babson in 2011 and served as the associate dean of undergraduate academic programs for more than six years and has been a professor in the Management Division for more than 14 years. She is an award-winning teacher, who teaches in the areas of organizational behavior, leadership, and negotiation across all programs. Her scholarship is at the intersection of careers, developmental (mentoring) networks, and leadership. Murphy has published her work in 40 journals, such as Career Development International, Human Resource Management, Journal of Management, and the Journal of Vocational Behavior, among others. Her work also has appeared in the Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, and Boston Business Journal.

Murphy also co-edited the Handbook of Research Methods in Careers with Professor Jennifer Tosti-Kharas, the Camilla Latino Spinelli Endowed Term Chair at Babson. Murphy’s book with Kathy Kram, Strategic Relationships at Work: Creating Your Circle of Mentors, Sponsors, and Peers for Success in Business and Life, bridges mentoring scholarship and practice.
