Babson Collaborative Announces Annual Awards

Listen

The Babson Collaborative’s 2022 annual awards celebrated a creative program that helps liberal arts students think more like CEOs, a highly collaborative incubator director at the Universidad de Piura in Peru, and a group of students who worked with the Collaborative network to safely evacuate a peer from Afghanistan.

The annual awards recognize achievements and excellence in entrepreneurship education as well as the dedication and contributions of members in support of the Babson Collaborative For Entrepreneurship Education’s mission to expand entrepreneurial ecosystems across the world. There are currently 34 member institutions in 21 countries.

Spotlight Award—Lewis & Clark College. The well-known liberal arts college in Portland, Oregon, was recognized for excellence in entrepreneurial education for its Winterim program, a fast-paced and immersive five days spent developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills run out of the Bates Center for Entrepreneurship & Leadership at Lewis & Clark College. The award gave special recognition to Brian Detweiler-Bedell, director and professor of psychology; Catarina Hunter, associate director of operations; and Chrys Hutchings, associate director and adjunct professor.

Member of the Year Award—Eddie Valdiviezo Céspedes, Universidad de Piura. The director of Hub Udep (the university incubator) at the Universidad de Piura in Peru, leveraged the Collaborative network to implement cross-institution initiatives between his university and other member schools, including hosting webinars, presenting at global summits, and co-authoring a chapter in the Collaborative book launched in 2021.

BCSN Changemaker Award—Nicolás Castellón, Joaquín González, Magdalena Irribarren, and Felipe Sanzana. This inaugural award, for entrepreneurial leadership in the service of others, was presented to four ambassadors of the Babson Collaborative Global Student Network (BCSN) at the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile. The BCSN ambassadors utilized their network and resources to evacuate a peer studying at the American University in Afghanistan as the Taliban captured Afghanistan in 2021 and resettled her safely in Santiago, Chile.
