The Good News Continues: Babson Ranks No. 1 for Entrepreneurship Again

The good news marches on for Babson in September.

Two weeks ago, the College held a celebration to mark the opening of the eagerly awaited Herring Family Entrepreneurial Leadership Village, a new living and learning space that promises to be a new defining feature of campus.

The week before that came an astounding recognition, as The Wall Street Journal ranked Babson the No. 2 college in the United States, an ascension signaling the institution’s leadership position in higher education.

Today, the acclaim continues with a familiar fall accolade. For the 28th consecutive time, U.S. News & World Report has named Babson the No. 1 undergraduate school for entrepreneurship

Babson may be a pioneer of entrepreneurship education, says Babson President Stephen Spinelli Jr. MBA’92, PhD, but such a long, impressive stretch of recognition by U.S. News & World Report speaks to how the College has evolved and innovated through the years. The Babson community, he says, is committed to growth, improvement, and excellence.

“Our continued placement atop these rankings is a testament to our ability to elevate our practice and thought leadership into the sphere of entrepreneurial leadership,” Spinelli says. “That approach broadens our reach, allowing us to create entrepreneurial leaders of all kinds across a lifetime and prepare them to succeed in any industry or profession.”

Looking Back, Looking Forward

With Babson earning such prestigious recognitions, Spinelli took a moment to look back, reflecting on how far Babson, and the entrepreneurship education that is its calling card, have come. “For decades, many refuted the belief that entrepreneurship was a discipline that could be taught,” he says. “The entrepreneurial spirit was seen as a mindset that some had, and others could not attain.”

This was an assumption that Babson refuted. “We at Babson never believed that to be true, and the substantial impact that our more than 45,000 alumni have on the world affirms what we’ve long known—that entrepreneurship not only can be taught, but it must be taught to move society forward,” Spinelli says.

“Thank you for contributing to a remarkable milestone for Babson College. Together, we will show the world what is possible when entrepreneurs lead the way.”

Spinelli also thought back to a year ago, when The Wall Street Journal ranked Babson as the No. 10 college in the country. At the time, that ranking felt unprecedented for the institution, but Spinelli believed that the recognition was “only the beginning for Babson’s ascension.” He pushed the Babson community to keep striving.

“I challenged our students, faculty, staff, and governance members to remain aspirational and imagine what the next level of greatness would hold for us,” he says. A year later, Babson reached even greater heights in The Wall Street Journal, while continuing its outstanding showing in U.S. News & World Report.

A Word of Gratitude

With September bringing so many achievements for Babson, Spinelli thought of the hard work of the entire College community. As the institution once again retained its No. 1 ranking for undergraduate entrepreneurship education (in the spring, the school also was named the best MBA for entrepreneurship for the 31st consecutive year), he spoke directly to the community to offer his thanks.

“Thank you for contributing to a remarkable milestone for Babson College,” Spinelli says. “Together, we will show the world what is possible when entrepreneurs lead the way.”
