Babson Ice Hockey Team Wins Conference Championship

The Babson College men’s ice hockey team captured the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) championship Saturday night to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Rory Casey ’23 scored twice as Babson defeated Skidmore College, 5-3, in the NEHC championship game at the Babson Skating Center. The sixth-ranked Beavers earned their seventh conference championship in program history and their first since back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014.

Babson (19-5-2) now advances to the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row and the 18th time overall. The Beavers will play host to Trinity College (17-7-1) in the first round at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the Babson Skating Center. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals against No. 3 SUNY Geneseo (22-3-1) on March 19.

Also, this past weekend, the men’s and women’s basketball teams competed in the NCAA Division III tournament. The men’s team, which finished the season 19-8, defeated DeSales, 80-67, in the first round but lost to No. 1 Randolph-Macon, 67-51, in the second round. The women’s team, which finished the season 20-8, defeated SUNY New Paltz, 79-66, in the first round but lost to the University of Scranton, 65-53, in the second round.
