Babson ITSD Earns CIO 100 Award for Its ‘All-In’ AI Strategy

Listen

For the second year in a row, Babson College’s Information Technology Services Department (ITSD) has been honored for its transformative work. ITSD was selected as a CIO 100 Award winner for 2025 for its entry, “EduAI Revolution,” which encapsulates the College’s successful “All-In” AI strategy.

Last year, ITSD was recognized for its entry, “Transforming Babson College,” which detailed the department’s impressive technological advancements and upgrades over the previous two years.

Early in the generative AI revolution, in August 2023, faculty members in The Generator, the College’s interdisciplinary AI lab, and key individuals in ITSD worked together to find ways to support AI needs in the classroom. By early 2024, Chief Information Officer Patty Patria and Generator lead Erik Noyes, the Michael London ’92 and Stephen H. Kramer ’92 Term Chair in Entrepreneurship, worked together to develop a comprehensive strategy to integrate artificial intelligence into the curriculum, enhancing instructional methods, personalizing student experiences, and optimizing administrative operations.

“This highly collaborative project revolutionized the student experience, from integrating AI into classroom lessons, to utilizing targeted AI tools to help with learning loss, to streamlining operations for efficiency,” Patria said. “The community has really embraced the strategy, and the early results show improvements in engagement and operational effectiveness.”

Babson’s advances in AI include creating an AI Dashboard to track weekly AI usage and AI grant funding awarded, as well as other key metrics; launching an asynchronous Foundations of AI Badge for students, faculty, and staff that explores the impact of AI on business; purchasing licenses of M365 Copilot for faculty and staff; piloting new MathBot technology in two statistics courses, and building additional bots, including a Prototyping Bot. The College also hired a new senior director of AI analytics, who has been instrumental in working with faculty and students on managing and growing its AI endeavors.

The CIO 100 Awards—named by CIO, the executive-level IT media brand providing insight into business technology leadership—celebrates 100 organizations and their teams that are using IT in innovative ways to deliver business value, whether by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth, or improving relationships with customers.

The awards will be presented at the CIO 100 Symposium and Awards conference August 11–13 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
