1966

Jim Herbert, chairman and CEO of First Republic Bank, has been reappointed for a second term by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco’s board of directors to sit on the Federal Advisory Council, which advises the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. A member of Babson’s Board of Trustees, Jim founded First Republic Bank, a leading private bank and wealth management company, as CEO in 1985.

1969

Louis Lavigne, P’92, former executive vice president and CFO of Genentech, joined the board of directors of Alector, a privately held biotechnology company pioneering immuno-neurology.

1972

Eric Johnson, P’08, CEO and president of Baldwin Richardson Foods, was elected to the board of trustees of Perez Art Museum Miami.

1973

Michael Burman, P’01 ’04, was named director of finance and administration of South Shore Habitat for Humanity, which has delivered quality housing in partnership with families in need for the past 32 years.

1979

Andy Goff

Thomas Shea was appointed CFO at ImmusanT, a biotechnology company focused on developing a treatment and a set of diagnostic and monitoring tools to manage patients with celiac disease, Type 1 diabetes, and other human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-linked diseases.

1983

Rodolphe von Berg

Rodolphe von Berg emails, “Got my revenge at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, by winning back the title in the 60–64 age group I had lost in 2017, for my ninth World Title. I did a 1,900-meter swim in 28 minutes and 50 seconds, followed by the 90-kilometer bike in 2 hours and 28 minutes, and the 21.1-kilometer run in 1 hour and 33 minutes for a total of 4 hours and 37 minutes. That gave me an 11-minute lead on the second-place finisher. Immense joy in a special weekend where my daughter, Olympia, placed ninth in the 25–29 age group and my son, Rudy, 10th, in the pro race.”

1985

Lisa McCubbin’s new book, Betty Ford: First Lady, Women’s Advocate, Survivor, Trailblazer, published by Gallery Books, received reviews and accolades in USA Today, People, The Wall Street Journal, and more.

1986

Jeffrey Brown, founder of Brown’s Super Stores in Philadelphia, was profiled in Chief Executive’s Jan. 19 article “A New Approach to Doing Well by Doing Good.” Jeffrey was highlighted for building a large, successful for-profit company that sells quality food to people in low-income areas.

Bill Gerraughty, MBA’96, was appointed CFO at Agero, a market leader in softwareenabled driver assistance services for automotive manufacturers and insurance providers in North America. In this role, Bill will be responsible for all finance and facilities functions.

1989

Craig LaFiandra, vice president, strategic accounts sales operations at UnitedHealthcare National Accounts, was named to the board of trustees at the Connecticut Science Center. Craig is currently the chair of the UnitedHealth Group’s Hartford Leadership Council.

1990

Alejandro Zubillaga Ortiz, partner at Rhone Group, joined the board of K Health, an artificial intelligence-powered health app that empowers consumers with health information based on the experiences of others.

1991

Richelieu Dennis, founder and chair of Essence Ventures, which owns Essence Communications, and founder and CEO of Sundial Brands, which includes Shea Moisture and Nubian Heritage, announced the New Voices Fund, a $100 million investment in black women entrepreneurs.

Gregg Lyon, chief strategy officer for bond construction services, strategic initiatives, and product management at Travelers insurance company, was featured in a Q&A for Engineering News-Record.

1993

David Kelman has joined Viridian Capital Advisors, a financial and strategic advisory firm dedicated to the cannabis market, as an investment banker.

Gary Mulkigian

Gary Mulkigian emails, “Jeff Neil ’92 and I became friends during our time at Babson. After school, we both went our separate ways. I moved to Haverhill, Mass., and one day, driving home from work, I looked to my right and there was Jeff. I rolled down my window and asked him where he was going and he said home. He lived only two miles away, but we did a poor job of getting together and after five years, I moved my family from Haverhill to Exeter, N.H. After living there a year, I was walking off a soccer field and ran into Jeff walking on. Come to find out that he moved to Exeter as well, his home again only two miles away from mine! Erik Ostrowski joined Avrobio as CFO. Ostrowski brings more than 20 years of finance and biotech operating experience, including a focus on rare diseases and cell-based therapies, to this Phase 2 clinical-stage gene therapy company developing gene therapies to potentially cure rare diseases with a single dose.

1996

Chris Kerr is co-founder and chief investment officer of New Crop Capital, a venture firm with stakes in 33 vegan food companies, including Good Catch, Purple Carrot, and Beyond Meat.

1999

Joseph Nappi was promoted to senior managing director and shareholder of Phoenix Management Services, which provides management assistance, complex restructurings, crisis and interim management, liquidity management, and forecasting and operational solutions.

Ritche Weekun was featured in The Manila Times in a Nov. 9 article, “Small Money, Big Business,” along with his co-founders of First Digital Finance, a financial technology startup that’s pioneering an automated way for customers to assess financial services online.

2000

Ricardo Campo emails, “I am the founder of Endeavor Schools, which owns and operates a family of 42 private schools across 10 states. An Inc. 5000 company, Endeavor recently was named among the fastest-growing companies in the U.S. by Inc. magazine.”

James Malone

James Malone emails, “I recently joined Nuvalent as their CFO. Nuvalent is a preclinical biotech company focused on developing breakthrough small molecule therapeutics using cutting-edge chemical insights.”

2003

Amy Yetter emails, “I recently completed my graduate degree in clinical mental health at Immaculata University. In addition, I received my MAC (Master Addiction Counselor) and CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional) certifications.”

2005

Nick Corto emailed to share a Buffalo Rising article about a residential property he rehabbed in Buffalo, N.Y., noting that the story is “perhaps an interesting read to those readers and alumni interested in real estate development and investing.”

2006

Emily Cashman Magno joined investment and wealth management firm Ballentine Partners as a senior client advisor. Most recently, she led the Lee Family Office in Cambridge, Mass.

Carson Thurber was appointed interim director of development at the SVHC Foundation for Southwestern Vermont Health Care. He has worked as a senior gift officer for the Foundation since 2015. firm Ballentine Partners as a senior client advisor. Most recently, she led the Lee Family Office in Cambridge, Mass.

Kit Yan, a slam poet and performer, was a 2018 fellow at the Trans Lab play group supported by the WP Theater and The Public Theater.

Chad Hollingsworth

Father and son alumni Chad and Dale P’07 ’11 Hollingsworth founded Triax Technologies, which delivers internet of things (IoT) technology to address worker safety and productivity issues in construction.

2010

Jillian Vaillancourt, of Londonderry, N.H., has returned to BANKW Staffing after a brief hiatus. She is now the firm’s director of strategic accounts.

2016

Saad El Yamani and Soham Khaitan were featured in a Dec. 18 Forbes article, “A Young Entrepreneur Has Bold Take on Fixing Student Engagement,” which highlights the growth of venture funding for their online learning platform Ambi, which is designed specifically for college students.

Henry Hu, co-founder of Cafe X, was named to Forbes “30 Under 30” in the consumer technology category.

2017

Ashley Gerber

Ashley Gerber, daughter of Charle Gerber ’83, was in Tel Aviv recently, following over one year of intensive and rigorous training in secret locations throughout Israel. Ashley successfully graduated with her platoon as a full combat special forces soldier serving in the Iron Dome mobile missile unit, on active duty, in the Israeli Air Force of the Israel Defense Forces.

2018

April Chen, founder of paper goods company Gentle, shared her startup story in a Jan. 14 article on The Story Exchange, an inspirational site for women entrepreneurs.

Michael Leahy and Jamie Steenbakkers were featured in a Dec. 19 Beauty Independent article, “Showerless Body-Care Startup Busy Beauty Raises $500K to Streamline Personal Maintenance,” for the highprofile investments in their startup, Busy Beauty, a brand of showerless personal care products.

Parthiv Neotia was featured in a Dec. 1 Forbes India profile about the evolution of the hospitality industry and his role in his family business, Ambuja Neotia Group, a top real estate company in Kolkata, India.

Michael Tallo joins Wakefield Cooperative Bank as vice president and CFO. Tallo brings more than 30 years of executive management experience to his new role.

1981

Paul Black joins Webster Bank as senior vice president on the Commercial Banking Middle Market team in Boston. Paul comes to Webster with more than 35 years of experience in debt financing.

1984

Michael Crawford was appointed senior vice president and market executive at Rockland Trust. Crawford will oversee a team of commercial lending, investment management, and treasury management officers headquartered in downtown Worcester.

1985

Paul Brown, P’02, emails, “I was recently appointed to be the coordinator of the department of foreign languages at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester. I have been a professor of foreign languages for 50 years.”

1986

Ann Tikkanen

Ann Tikkanen was named chief financial and administrative officer of The Trustees, a long-standing land conservation and preservation nonprofit in Massachusetts. “I look forward to helping the organization innovate, grow, and expand its impact for the benefit of Massachusetts residents and visitors,” she says.

1991

James Webster was named to the President’s Club of D.A. Davidson & Co., as reported in the Jan. 13 edition of the Bozeman (Mont.) Daily Chronicle. Part of D.A. Davidson Wealth Management, James is a senior vice president, financial advisor, and portfolio manager.

1993

Philip Stathos

Philip Stathos, partner at Mayflower Advisors in Boston, was named to the Forbes 2018 Best-in-State Wealth Advisors list for Massachusetts. Only 96 financial advisors from the state were named to the highly selective list. For more than 20 years, Philip has been working to help families achieve their investment and financial goals.

1994

John Cogliandro published a book, Who Stole My Bait? The book explores fishing stories as a backdrop to discussing business topics.

Darlene Murphy

Darlene Murphy, the president, co-founder, and portfolio manager of Wellesley Asset Management, received two prominent recognitions. Working Mother magazine named Darlene, a CPA and CFP, to a list of Top Wealth Advisor Moms. Additionally, The Boston Globe named Darlene’s firm to a list of the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts.

Jose Bosco Maldonado P’23 has been named a member of the board of trustees for Texans Can Academies, an open-enrollment, free public high school of choice with 14 campuses across Texas.

1998

Geoff Blanck

Geoff Blanck, emails, “Tobin Kelly, MBA’98 (left), and I purchased Forest Lake Camp 10 years ago. FLC has been around for 93 years as a traditional summer camp for kids in the Adirondack Mountains. We have more than doubled the size of the business in the past 10 years, expanding to include family camp, weddings, school groups, and corporate retreats. Several Babson alumni have sent their children to camp or attended various events. Ever since Babson, when Tobin and I met, we knew we wanted to be in business together. Rarely does a day go by when we do not refer to what Bill Lawler or Larry Carr would have thought about a particular decision.”

Steve Poftak has been appointed general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. Steve has served as vice chair of the MBTA Fiscal and Management Control Board.

2000

Sean Black, co-founder and CEO of Knock, which strives to make the process of buying and selling a home easier, was profiled in the Jan. 8 issue of Authority Magazine.

Pam Boiros joined the senior management team in the newly created position of chief marketing officer at meQuilibrium, an engagement and performance platform that helps businesses build workforce potential.

David Waddell is CEO of wealth management firm Waddell & Associates, co-chair of the Chairman’s Circle of the Greater Memphis Chamber, and chairman of Epicenter Memphis, a nonprofit supporting entrepreneurs.

2003

Phillip Silitschanu was named director of strategic relationships at Token IQ, a blockchain technology company.

2006

Nirlay Kundu, an engineer at Verizon Innovation Labs, was part of a panel discussion at RAN World 2018, an event for those in telecommunications who work with radio access networks.

Prasant Tangirala: The Magic Seedling and Other Short Stories

Prasant Tangirala published a children’s book. Prasant emails, “Underneath the soft fairy-tale veneer of The Magic Seedling and Other Short Stories lies a powerful message of tolerance, courage, love, and respect. Children will relate to the tales that take the reader from lush green rainforests through mythical cities, and adults will discover symbolism that resonates with today’s socio-political climate.”

2007

John Gingrich was named senior vice president of new business development at EnergySage, an online comparisonshopping marketplace for rooftop solar, community solar, and financing.

Prashant Parameswaran, founder and managing director of Kottaram Agro Foods, was profiled in Franchise India’s Nov. 28 article, “Soulfull: Giving A Modern Twist to Ancient Indian Grain.” The article highlighted the success of the company’s Soulfull food brand.

2008

Doug Chapman emails, “I have written and published a business book on leadership titled Creating the Buy-In Magnet.”

2009

Steven Baumruk joins Korn Ferry, a global organizational consulting firm, as senior client partner. He will be based in Korn Ferry’s Washington office.

Paul Burke joins eMolecules, which provides information and availability data on chemical or biology products, as vice president of procurement. Paul brings more than 15 years of procurement experience to his new role.

Hammad Graham was appointed to vice president of originations for the Northeast at Alliant Capital, a low-income housing tax credit syndicator headquartered in Woodland Hills, Calif.

2010

Harold Mateo was featured in the Jan. 4 issue of the Fitchburg, Mass., newspaper, Sentinel & Enterprise, for purchasing an automatic basketball shooting machine for his alma mater, Fitchburg High School.

2011

Christina Armentano is executive vice president of sales, marketing, and business development at Paraco, a privately held seller of propane gas headquartered in Rye Brook, N.Y. She was profiled in an article, “Carving Armentano’s Path Was a Matter of Discipline,” in the December 24 edition of the Westchester County Business Journal.

Matt Chatham, former NFL player, was profiled in the Jan. 15 Boston Globe feature “The VIP Lounge.” Matt played for the New England Patriots from 2000–2005 and won three Super Bowls before spending a couple of seasons with the New York Jets. He is now an analyst for New England Sports Network, a writer for The Athletic, and a college football color analyst for ESPN.

Matthew Guarracino

Matthew Guarracino, business development manager at JM Electrical, was named president of the Massachusetts Building Congress (MBC), a networking organization for the design and construction industry, for the 2018-2019 session. Previously, Matthew served as the MBC’s president-elect and treasurer while taking part in a number of committees. In his senior role at JM Electrical, Matthew directs the company’s business development strategy and manages its financial and marketing efforts.

2013

Matt Bryson joined Madwire, a digital marketing software and technology company in Fort Collins, Colo., as CFO.

Josh Opatz, co-founder of Young & Yonder Spirits, was featured in Marin Magazine’s January profile on local beverage companies, titled “Appellations: New Beginnings—Three Couples Who Took a Risk and Leaped into the World of Bottling Amazing Tastes.”

Anil Rayasam was featured in the Jan. 8 issue of The Boston Globe for his role as both a restaurateur and entrepreneur. He and his wife, Yuri Asawasittikit, run Mae Asian Eatery in Cambridge, Mass., as well as food startup Snack Food Farm, which is based in Thailand with a facility in New Jersey.

Dave Rego is the new vice president and general manager of North American operations for Physik Instrumente, a global manufacturer of motion control and positioning components and systems.

2014

Michael Ly is co-founder and CEO of Reconciled, a Burlington, Vt., firm that provides digital bookkeeping services to entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Emily Robertson, marketing manager of Gore Place, a historic country house and museum, was profiled in the Nov. 19 issue of the Waltham (Mass.) News Tribune.

2015

David Broomhead, co-founder and CEO of Trade Hounds, announces the creation of a mobile app that connects construction workers all over the U.S., providing them with a digital platform to share their experiences and showcase their work.

Abby Speicher Carroll, CEO and cofounder of DARTdrones, a drone training and consulting company, was named to the Forbes “30 Under 30” of 2019 in the Enterprise Technology category.

2016

Mayura Davda, MS’16, launched Mayu, a sustainable luxury lifestyle brand. Mayu offers such items as wallets and card cases crafted in India from Icelandic fish leather.

Kazunori Kawanobe, founder of smart teapot Teplo, was mentioned in a Dec. 17 Bloomberg article, “There’s One Place Where VCs Chase Founders to Give Them Money,” about startup funding in Japan.

2017

Adam Martel and Rich Palmer, MBA’16, founders of fundraising software Gravyty, announced Gravyty Connect, an artificial intelligence tool for nonprofit and higher education fundraising. Adam also rang the Nasdaq opening bell in November in honor of #GivingTuesday.

James Shaw

James Shaw was named one of the 2018 Engineering Leaders Under 40 by Plant Engineering and Control Engineering magazines. Jim is the founder and managing director of Chicago-based Fastway Engineering, a provider of training and consulting services in computer-aided design and engineering software.

2018

Krishna Konda emails, “A couple of months back, I picked up a new gig in the data space. I am now senior director heading business intelligence-analytics and data science at Oxford Global Resources. I thought I got the job due to my 15-plus years’ experience, but after the hiring process was done, I came to know that the executive vice president picked my résumé because I have an MBA.”

The Babson community has been incredibly active this winter in anticipation of the College’s Centennial milestone. Alumni, friends, and families have gathered all around the world to reconnect and celebrate Babson’s global presence. Vaibhav Vohra ’08 hosted a Babson Alumni Club of India reception with President Kerry Healey. In Tokyo, Junichi Murata, MBA’60, H’92, was honored at the annual meeting of the Babson Alumni Club of Japan for his commitment and leadership for many decades. An alumni dinner also was held in Beijing. Alumni and friends around the world look forward to an exciting Centennial year ahead.

Abdul Ali of Wellesley died Dec. 19. A long-standing member of the Babson faculty, he was an associate professor of marketing and former chair of the Marketing Division. He was instrumental in spearheading the College’s initiatives in business analytics.

Frances Fleming of Needham died Nov. 30. She was a career counselor at Babson.

Bala Iyer of Wellesley died Nov. 16. He was Babson’s dean of faculty. Joining the College’s faculty in 2006, he previously served as chair of the Technology, Operations, and Information Management Division. Before Babson, he taught at Boston University.
