Blackstone Canal
Photographer Maggie McCauley took this photo on a trail she frequently walks down along the Blackstone Canal. “Today the canal is part of the Blackstone River Valley National Heritage Corridor park,” says McCauley. “This was a bright, sunny day in spring.” The Blackstone River Valley is considered the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. © Maggie McCauley
Mill Worker's View
McCauley took this photo inside an old mill in the Blackstone River Valley park. “The view through the window reminds me that life wasn’t that great for the workers, who lived in company housing and bought their food and goods at company stores,” she says. “The life of a mill worker was dark, whether inside or out.” © Maggie McCauley
Tight Spot NYC
“I feel this shot, which I call ‘Tight Spot NYC,’ represents the crowded city, even without people,” says McCauley. © Maggie McCauley

“This is an old laundry mart,” says McCauley. “It looks deserted, but the door is ajar and the plastic bags on the washer indicate that someone was there.” © Maggie McCauley
Waiting
“These chairs were photographed as I found them in the old laundry mart,” says McCauley. “I could envision people looking out onto the main street, waiting for their laundry to be done.” © Maggie McCauley
